Rosa Shepherd

Alto 2026 –

I am going into my first year of studying Music at St John’s College. I am originally from Hampshire, and my musical background spans many genres, including choral music, jazz and brass bands, mainly through my local music service. My introduction to choral music was growing up watching my grandparents perform in their choirs, and I have enjoyed choral singing anywhere I can since then.

Most memorable performance?

Not a choir performance (yet!), but performing Gavin Higgins’ Concerto Grosso for Brass Band and Orchestra in the Royal Festival Hall was certainly a highlight of my musical career.

Favourite piece outside of the choral world?

Journey into Freedom by Eric Ball or Dvorak’s Carnival Overture are definitely up there, but I am also a die-hard Queen fan! Somebody to Love is, in my humble opinion, one of the greatest songs of all time.

What do you love beyond singing?

I have always been very interested in Classics, so I do love reading any book on mythology in my free time. I am currently working my way through a collection of Greek plays, as well as attempting to learn a few new languages.
