Rowan Taymuree
Tenor 2025 -
Having graduated with a BM in Vocal Studies from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music (USA), I’m honoured to be joining the choir of St. John’s as a Choral Graduate. While back in the States, I’ve had the privilege of singing in many Episcopalian cathedrals and parishes across the country, including Grace Cathedral, San Francisco (my hometown); St Thomas Church, New York City; and St Paul’s Church, Cleveland Heights, among others. I believe deeply in this music and tradition, and the opportunity to continue to immerse myself within it here at St. John’s is the fulfilment of a long-held dream.
What do you love to listen to?
Howells is, by and far, my favourite composer. His song cycle In Green Ways is utterly sublime. Another favourite is the achingly tender duet, “Un soave non so che”, from Rossini’s La Cenerentola.
What do you enjoy beyond singing?
I’m passionate about creating performances that spark curiosity! I also love practising Gothic calligraphy, reading and performing the works of Shakespeare, and studying the pedagogy of Konstantin Stanislavski.
