Benedict Barrington

Bass 2026 –

I am a first-year Music undergraduate at St John’s College, hailing most recently from York. Previously though, I grew up, in part, in Chicago, where I first discovered my love of choral music as a chorister at St James Cathedral, before moving to York and quickly becoming involved in the city’s vibrant choral scene. I’m now very pleased to be continuing that at St John’s as a member of the Gents.

Favourite piece of choral music?

Bach’s Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied, though any of his motets are superb.

What do you enjoy beyond choral music?

In recent years I’ve enjoyed discovering and playing orchestral works on the clarinet, particularly pieces that I wouldn’t otherwise come across through choral music.
